What is Pantry Packs?
Pantry Packs is a local non-profit with the goal of keeping hungry kids fed. There are kids in our own community without enough food at home to keep their tummies full over the weekend (and holidays) when free/reduced breakfast and lunch is unavailable.
Pantry Packs works to alleviate these food insecurities by providing a backpack program through local schools. Every week, packs are filled with kid-friendly food for the weekend. Kids (identified by school counselors/teachers/administrators) are able to take the packs home on Fridays, fill their cupboards, and return the packs on Monday to be re-filled for the next week.
Each weekly pack includes enough food for 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 1 dinner, many snacks, bread, and produce (when available). We are currently serving almost 500 students, from preschool through high school, in 30 schools each week.
Who Can Participate in Pantry Packs?
Pantry Packs is available to any student in need. To enroll in this program, talk to your school counselor, teacher, office staff, or contact Pantry Packs directly.
How can you help Pantry Packs?
There are many ways individuals, students, and groups can help us. Stay connected with or contact us to find out how! Some examples include:
- Spread the word about the need!
- Friend “Pantry Packs” on Facebook to see current needs and volunteer opportunities.
- Organize a bake sale or other fundraiser to collect $$$ to purchase a Costco gift card for us.
- Organize a Pantry Packs Gift Card and/or Food Drive at your school, church, organization, event or workplace. (We prefer gift cards, but if you intend to hold a food drive, please contact us before undertaking this endeavor so we can let you know what items would be most useful to us at the time).
